Sugar price likely to increase

சீனியின் விலை அதிகரிக்கும் வாய்ப்பு

The Importers of Essential Commodities Association has said that the price of imported sugar is likely to increase further in the near future.

The main reason for this is that the allotted period for imports from India has expired. It is noteworthy that currently sugar is being imported from Brazil.

In the last few days, the price of sugar per kg has been Rs 230. But yesterday the price of one kg of sugar was 250 rupees. Nihal Senaviratne, the spokesperson of the Essential Importers Association, said that even if sugar is not imported from India, there is sufficient stock of sugar for 2 months in Sri Lanka.

He also mentioned that sugar will continue to be imported from other contracting countries.
