Jaffna University Staff Union Announces Two-Day Strike in Public Universities

The Jaffna University Staff Union has announced that a two-day strike will be held in public universities across the country today (28) and tomorrow (29). Additionally, a vigilance demonstration will take place at the front of Jaffna University today (28).

According to the letter issued to the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, dated 20.02.2024, from the All University Trade Union Confederation, both today and tomorrow (28th and 29th), the University Grants Commission and the Government have been given a specific timeframe to address the salary discrepancy, salary increase, and problems affecting the university non-academic employees in all universities. As a result, a strike has been planned to protest the non-disbursement and demand an immediate solution. Furthermore, a protest will be held in front of the University Grants Commission tomorrow (29).

Based on these developments, the university staff union in Jaffna University will go on strike today (28) and tomorrow (29).

Additionally, a vigilance demonstration is scheduled to take place today (28) at 11:00 am in front of the University of Jaffna. Tomorrow (29th), there will be a participation in the vigilance demonstration held in front of the University Grants Commission in Colombo.
