New governors are to be appointed today (17.05.2023) for Northern, Eastern and North Western Provinces. The event will be held in the presence of the President today at the Presidential Secretariat.

Based on this, it is reported that former Minister Laxman Yappa Abeywardhana as the Governor of the North Western Province, Former Member of the Election Commission P.S. Charles as the Governor of the North and Senthil Thondaman as the Governor of the Eastern Province have also been named.

Apart from this, the names of former ministers Daya Gamage and Naveen Dissanayake have also been proposed for the governorship posts.

The President's Office had announced that the governors of the North, East and North-West provinces had been removed with effect from the 15th.

It is also noteworthy that Jeevan Thiagarajah was the Governor of the Northern Province, Anuradha Yahampat was the Governor of the Eastern Province and Vasantha Karnakoda was the Governor of the North-Western Province.
