Free Audio and Video Calls on X (Formerly Twitter): Here's How

Users on X (Twitter) Can make Audio & Video calls for free: Here is how

Audio and video calls on Elon Musk's social media platform X (formerly Twitter) are now accessible to all users without the requirement of a phone number or X Premium subscription. This feature, previously available only to premium subscribers, is set to give other services like Meta's WhatsApp a tough competition.

X engineer Enrique Barragan announced the news on the platform, stating, "We are gradually rolling out audio and video calling to non-premium users, try it out!" Users now have the option to allow calls from any user.

To receive calls, users need to follow or have the account in their address book. Furthermore, both accounts must have exchanged at least one direct message (DM). However, users can modify their settings to receive calls from anyone on the platform, not just those they follow. Initially, this feature was limited to iOS users with active X Premium subscriptions, but earlier this year, X expanded access to Android users as well.

Here's how to make free calls on Elon Musk's X:

  1. Launch the X app on your Android or iOS device and navigate to the DM section.
  2. Click the phone icon and choose "Audio Call" or "Video Call" from the menu that appears. Your conversation will begin, and the person you're trying to reach will be notified.
  3. In the top right corner, access the Settings option to adjust your call preferences and who can call you.
