Sri Lanka should become Asia's main base in baseball


President Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed officials including the Minister of Sports to appoint a committee of experts to examine the progress of the country's sports sector and its plans.

The President instructed to appoint the said committee with the participation of the ruling and opposition members representing the Parliament including Ministers of Sports, Education, and sectoral experts.

The President said the above during his observation visit today (25) to visit Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex

The President instructed the officials of the Ministry of Sports to select 100 female athletes from all sports fields and provide them with the necessary facilities and training.

The President also pointed out that by implementing this program every year, we can produce female athletes who can win international competitions in this country within a few years.

Likewise, the President highlighted the need to know the sports skills of children at the age of 10-12 and to create opportunities for them accordingly.

The President instructed to take necessary steps to popularize the game of baseball in 100 schools in the country, including major schools in Colombo and advised that Sri Lanka should be transformed into the main base of baseball in Asia.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe also emphasized the need to create facilities for female athletes who represent the motherland in various sports fields and then retire, considering those qualifications as basic qualifications to complete their degree studies.
