Electricity board employees need police protection
Ranjan Jayalal, co-convener of Sri Lanka Electricity Council United Trade Union Confederation, said that if the electricity workers have to go to their homes to cut power, provide them with police protection.
He informed that some of the employees of the Electricity Council have been threatened with death in connection with this power cut and tariff hike and they cannot go to work and be beaten.
Also, a massive protest has been launched against the hike in electricity rates, and people are requested to support it and participate in the protest.
He also asserted that we will not intervene as a trade union if the residents beat up the laborers going for power cuts.
He also pointed out that high tariff for people who use electricity sparingly is a big problem.
