Gazette notification revising retirement age of doctors
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena as Minister of State Administration Internal Affairs Provincial Councils and Local Government has issued a gazette notification in this regard.
Accordingly, the compulsory retirement age of the posts of Special Medical Officer, Government Medical Officer, Dental Surgeon and Government Registered Medical Officer has been revised.

According to the amendment, doctors who have already completed the age of 63 will have to retire before December 31.

Doctors who have completed 62 years of age should retire on completion of 63 years and doctors who have completed 61 years of age should retire on completion of 62 years.

According to the new amendment, doctors who have completed 60 years of age should retire on completion of 61 years and doctors who have completed 59 years of age should retire on completion of 60 years.

However, doctors with birthdays between January 1st and June 30th are eligible to work up to June 30th of the relevant year.

It has been informed that doctors born between July 1st and December 31st will be given time to serve till December 31st of that year.

These amendments will be effective till December 31 next year.
