Today, the Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for widespread rain and thundershowers across several provinces and districts in the country. The Upper, Sabaragamuwa, and North-West provinces, as well as Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts, are expected to experience occasional rain or thundershowers.
In particular, Mel and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Puttalam, Galle, and Matara districts, may witness heavy rains exceeding 50 mm at certain locations. Meanwhile, Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts are likely to encounter several spells of rain throughout the day.
During the evening or night, the Uva province, Batticaloa, and Ampara districts may also experience rain or thundershowers. It is advisable for individuals to take necessary precautions to mitigate the risks associated with temporary strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms.
In specific regions such as the western slopes of the Central Highlands, as well as the North, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, along with Trincomalee and Hambantota districts, wind speeds are expected to reach significant levels. The Department of Meteorology warns of wind gusts ranging from 40 to 45 km/h.
