A meeting took place at the Ministry between Charles Callanan, the South Asia Director of the United Nations Organization for Special Operations, and Jeevan Thondaman, the Minister of Water Supply and Plantation Infrastructure Development. The discussion revolved around the implementation of special projects in the water supply sector, ensuring continuous water supply, integrating renewable energy into water treatment, adopting new technologies, and establishing water infrastructure facilities with the support of agricultural investment systems and international financial institutions.

Special attention was given to programs targeting plantation areas, which would be carried out through the plantation human resource development fund. The meeting resulted in agreements to initiate special projects related to housing, infrastructure development, and school improvements in plantation regions. The involvement of international financial institutions was sought, and proposals were made.

Attending the meeting were Varuna Samarathivakara, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply and Plantation Infrastructure Development; Nishantha Ranatunga, Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board; Bharat Arulsamy, Chairman of the Plantation Human Resource Development Fund; Haritha Wickramasinghe, Advisor of the Ministry of Water Supply and Plantation Infrastructure Development; Vasantha Ilangasingha, Manager of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board; and Mohammad Khader, Special Secretary to the Minister.
