Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs has recently issued a special circular, enabling government officials to avail themselves of leave for the purpose of adopting a child. This progressive move aims to support and encourage government employees who choose to adopt and provide a nurturing environment for their newly welcomed children.

According to the circular, government employees will be granted a maximum of four consecutive months of leave upon adopting a child. This duration reflects the significance of the adoption process and ensures that employees have ample time to bond with and care for their adopted child. To be eligible for this leave, the age of the adopted child should be less than ten months, and a true copy of the child's birth certificate must be submitted as proof.

The circular offers flexibility in terms of leave options for permanent government servants. They can choose to take paid leave, half paid leave, or unpaid leave for up to four months while bringing up their adopted child. This provision acknowledges the various circumstances and needs of government employees, allowing them to make the necessary arrangements to accommodate their new family member.

In addition to the extended leave period, the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs has also introduced a special maternity leave of three working days for permanent government employees adopting a child.
