First death from H3N8 bird flu in China

China has reported its first death from bird flu (H3N8).

A 58-year-old woman from Zhangshan City, Guangdong Province was diagnosed with bird flu. He was admitted to the hospital suffering from severe pneumonia and was being given intensive care. In this situation, the woman died without treatment, the World Health Organization said.

It has been reported that the woman visited a poultry farm before contracting the disease and environmental samples collected there tested positive for avian flu viruses.

This is the first bird flu-related death in China. H.3.N.8. The transmission of the virus to humans was confirmed a year and a half ago. In 2022, a 4-year-old boy contracted bird flu in central China. He recovered from it. Then in May of the same year, a 5-year-old boy from Henan Province was infected. He had only mild symptoms.
