The death toll from yesterday's earthquake in Morocco has surpassed 2000, as reported by foreign media. The number of seriously injured individuals has also risen rapidly, reaching approximately 1,400, according to the country's interior ministry. The provinces south of Marrakesh have witnessed a significant number of severe injuries.

In response to this tragic event, King Mohammed VI of Morocco has declared three days of national mourning. The government has promptly intervened to offer shelter, food, and other assistance to the survivors, many of whom are preparing for a second night outdoors.

The earthquake, measured at a magnitude of 6.8, has affected several cities, including the renowned tourist destination Marrakesh. Reports indicate that entire villages in hilly areas have been demolished.

The epicenter of the quake was located in the Atlas Mountains, approximately 71 kilometers from Marrakesh, a city recognized as a World Heritage site.
