The Sri Lankan State Trade (Miscellaneous) Statutory Corporation has issued guidelines for the safe consumption of imported eggs from India in Sri Lanka. The head of the corporation, Valisundara, has advised that eggs taken from cold storage and sold under normal conditions can only be kept for three days. However, if the eggs are kept in cold storage at a temperature of two degrees Celsius, they can be stored for up to three months. After taking them out for sale, consumers should consume them within three days to ensure their freshness and safety.

It's important to note that eggs imported from India are stored in cold storage warehouses below two degrees Celsius, and it takes 18 hours for them to reach the country. These eggs are being sold in supermarkets and retail stores since the 25th of July. The President of Lanka Sathosa, Basantha Yappa Abeywardana, reported that 238,000 eggs were distributed on the first day of the Sathosa. Additionally, the six thousand eggs distributed to the Sathosa Company in Porala were sold within four hours. Consumers can purchase these eggs at Sathosa and supermarkets for Rs 35.

It's crucial to follow the guidelines issued by the Sri Lankan State Trade (Miscellaneous) Statutory Corporation for the safe consumption of imported eggs from India. These guidelines ensure that the eggs remain fresh and safe for consumption. Consumers should be aware of the optimal temperature for storage and the duration of time they can keep eggs out of cold storage. By following these guidelines, consumers can enjoy the benefits of imported eggs while ensuring their safety.
